Hey there, thanks for posting about this! What I find interesting is that a lot of these top volume sellers have listings that are on the very low side, price wise - like $5 and under. I know you price a lot of your things low in your shop too...
I guess what I am getting at is how much money are they really making, after fees and expenses, when selling items at such a low price? I guess volume does help, and selling multiple listings in one transaction too... Any thoughts?
Ahhh I getcha... You see what I mean though when you look at a $3 item say - $.20 to list, $0.40 PayPal fee, plus final value fees and any shipping expense, plus price you paid for the item...
It all adds up, even if you are getting your item for super cheap... The time it takes to photo and list and ship is an expense too... I don't know, I just always wonder if listing things for that low is worth it.
Do a lot of your sales come in batches - say, someone orders 4 or 5 low priced items at once?
For me, listing something under $8 is a rarity, when it gets to those low numbers I just have a hard time feeling like it is worth it... which is why I am curious as to how people who do it make it work! ;)
I rarely sell one thing in an order. Average order is 4 to 5 things that are small and easy to ship. I also list things that are easy to ship. I avoid housewares and breakables. Little savings here and there adds up too.

I can't answer for other sellers. My price of my items are based on what I find them for - not what I can make off them.
For the record - my average is $6.50 x 10 sales daily.
